SPRINGFIELD, IL – Quincy University rallied past the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team in a 3-2 victory during Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup.
After starting out with a 2-0 deficit, Quincy scored two goals in the last five minutes to capture the victory and the GLVC regular-season crown. The Hawks (14-2, 12-1) are ranked No. 14 in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division II poll.

During the 15th minute, the Prairie Stars had a strong look when
Maggie Juhlin found an 1-on-1 opening for
Taylor Mraz. The keeper played up and collected the save. During the 21st minute,
Emily Matsen fired a shot from 18 yards out that went just right. Two minutes later, Juhlin created an opening that allowed
Meghan Delaney to make a run but came up empty.

Juhlin and Mraz were able to set up another 1-on-1 opportunity 32 minutes into the match and Mraz was able to convert the finish. Mraz capitalized off an upfield pass from Juhlin by making a move left and shooting right.

Mackenzie Rief found a good look during the 38th minute and drilled a shot on goal, UIS goalkeeper
Courtney Johnson sent the shot into the crossbar to deny the equalizer.

During the 39th minute,
Madisyn Coudriet delivered a corner kick. Juhlin provided the header and
Amanda Meyer redirected the header with another header to give UIS a 2-0 lead.

"I was thrilled with the way the team performed," UIS coach
Erin Egolf said. "We finished a couple of quality chances and created a half of a dozen more."

One minute later, Reif slipped a pass to Baylee Smith, who tore through the box and cut Quincy's deficit to one score.

Quincy started the second half when Cassidy Foley faced a 1-on-2 situation 46 minutes into the match and contributed a shot that went just left. During the 55th minute,
Kayla Meyer found some open space after juking out a defender. She served a pass to the goal and Juhlin nearly slipped the shot in, but the shot went high.

With less than four minutes remaining, Quincy drew a penalty kick as the result of a handball inside of the box. Reif converted the penalty kick to tie the match at 2-all. Two minutes later, the Hawks were the beneficiary of another handball penalty which occurred just outside of the box. Reif sent the free kick in the back of the net and gave Quincy the lead. The Hawks closed out the remaining 1 minute, 53 seconds.

Reif scored two goals in the contest. She currently leads the GLVC in points (21), goals (9) and game-winning goals (8). Smith finished the match with one goal.

Mraz and
Amanda Meyer each notched goals from the Prairie Stars. Juhlin dished out two assists while Coudriet added an assist.

Quincy goalkeeper Megan Swanson faced four shots and gathered two saves. Swanson ranks second in the GLVC with a .901Â save percentage. Johnson rejected six of the nine shots she faced for the Prairie Stars.

The Hawks outshot the Prairie Stars by a 18-to-15 margin.

Mraz provided two shots on goal while Kaylan Mills and
Amanda Meyer produced a shot on target apiece. Juhlin fired six shots, Mraz contributed four shots and Mills delivered two shots. The Prairie Stars also received shots from Matsen,
Amanda Meyer and
Taylor Parriott.

"We were unlucky to not get a result from this game, but hopefully we use this as motivation for Wednesday."

UIS faces off with Rockhurst University (7-8-1, 5-7-1) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium. The Prairie Stars are looking for their first-ever GLVC Tournament berth and can capture that with a win or tie over Rockhurst. UIS and Rockhurst currently sit eighth and ninth, respectively in the GLVC, which takes the top eight teams into the postseason. Rockhurst can claim the final postseason spot with a win over UIS.

"I'm excited about the progress that we are making, and we know that we can compete with anyone in this conference. If we can get a result on Wednesday, that will allow us to go on and make some noise in the postseason."

The Prairie Stars honored Coudriet, Matsen, Mills,
Regina Bolin,
Hailey Hawkins and
Sam Morin for Senior Day.

Coudriet has started in 69 career matches. Among UIS Division II career leaders, the defender from Chesterton, IN is tied for eighth in assists (4), tied for ninth in goals (4) and tied for ninth in points (12).

Matsen has played in 64 career matches and started in 24 career matches. The midfielder from Springfield, IL ranks fourth in goals (8), is tied for fifth in points (18) and is tied for first in game-winning goals (4), among UIS Division II career leaders. Among UIS Division II single-season leaders, Matsen is tied for sixth in goals (4) and tied for 10th in points (8). Matsen is also tied for seventh in the GLVC with four goals on the season.

Bolin has started in 70 career matches. The defender from Kansas City, MO is tied for ninth among UIS Division II leaders with four career goals.

Mills has played in 65 career matches and started in 49 career matches. The midfielder from Oswego, IL is tied for seventh in the conference with three assists on the season.
