Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The men's tennis team played two dual matches this past weekend, falling to Emporia State before besting Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Truman State.
EMPORIA STATE 7, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 2
In a non-conference affair, UIS welcomed in Emporia State on Friday afternoon, and were victorious in two singles matches on the day. After falling in all three doubles matches, UIS fought hard in the singles portion, as
Tommy Martinez and
Oscar Toro went away with wins.
Martinez and
Sam Clarke fell 8-5 in doubles while Logan Burgess-Hayes and
Pete Molloy suffered the same outcome but by an 8-4 margin. Toro and partner,
Alex Chan fell 8-3 in the final spot.
Molloy was the lone Prairie Star to go to three-sets, falling 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 in a marathon match. Martinez won in the fourth spot with a 6-0, 6-4 decision.
ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 9, TRUMAN STATE 0
In the final match of the weekend, UIS dismantled GLVC opponent Truman State by a score of 9-0, winning all matches in straight sets and surrendering just eight total games across six singles matches.
Molloy and Toro each picked up a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories while Clarke and Chan each swept at least one set.
UIS moved to 3-1 in the dual match season and has one more match left in the fall season against Maryville on Saturday, October 21
st at 1:00 PM.
Clarke is now 8-2 on the season in singles and holds a 7-3 overall record in doubles. Molloy is 7-2 in singles and as a team, UIS holds a .678 winning percentage in singles with a 40-19 record.
