UIS Battles to Draw with UW-Parkside

SOMERS, WI – The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside during Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) matchup.
 
UW-Parkside (2-9-2, 1-7-2) took an early lead during the second minute when Viktoria Silva made a baseline drive. Silva sent the pass Jazmin Castanon in the center of the box as Castanon delivered the goal from 13 yards out.
 
The Rangers had an opportunity to take a two-score lead over the Prairie Stars (7-4-4, 4-4-3) 42 minutes into the first period. Anna Delseith received a cross and fired a shot, but UIS goalkeeper Courtney Johnson came up with the save.
 
During the 83rd minute, UIS evened the score when Emily Matsen recovered a loose ball and found the back of the net from five yards out.
 
Taylor Mraz saw a good look in the 91st minute when she produced a shot from the top-right corner of the box but UW-Parkside goalkeeper sent away the shot. Neither team registered a shot on goal for the remainder of the match.
 
UIS outshot UW-Parkside by a 14-12 margin.
 
Bratel faced 10 shots and collected nine saves while Johnson rejected three of the four shots she faced.
 
Matsen, Mraz and Meghan Delaney each recorded two shots on goal. The Prairie Stars received shots on goal from Erin Bolskar, Maggie Juhlin, Kayla Meyer and Kimmie Rickson.
 
Castanon, Chloe Couves, Lexi Porter and Anna Delseith each contributed shots on goal for the Rangers.
 
The Prairie Stars take on Lewis University (5-5-2, 4-4-2) in a GLVC matchup on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Kiwanis Stadium.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the Springfield Marathon, University Drive and the south end of 11th Street will be closed, so fans will need to come into campus on Vachel Lindsay Drive off the north end of 11th Street. The South Lot (Lot I) will also be closed, so fans will need to park in the North Lot (Lot F).
 
PRAIRIE STAR NOTES
Among UIS Division II leaders, Matsen is tied for sixth in single-season goals (4) and tied for ninth in single-season points (8). Matsen also ranks fourth in career goals (8) and is tied for fifth in points (18).
