Volleyball Falls Twice in Conference Road Swing

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The Prairie Stars (5-7, 0-4) hit the road for their first conference road swing of the year and fell to William Jewell (9-5, 3-1) and Rockhurst (9-4, 3-1), both in straight sets. Illinois Springfield has now lost four consecutive games, after moving to a program best 5-3 start after two tournaments.

WILLIAM JEWELL 3, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 0
On Friday, UIS traveled to Liberty, Missouri to take on the Cardinals, who went 2-2 at the Capital Classic, hosted by UIS over Labor Day weekend. UIS fell in the opening set 25-17, committing seven errors to ten kills. In the second set, UIS took a 11-6 lead, riding the serve of Alyssa Hasler, scoring six consecutive points.

Down 13-7, Jewell rallied back, scoring eight straight points and 12 of the next 14 to take a 20-16 advantage. UIS came back to tie the match at 22 before the teams traded points to become tied at 24. Jewell would take the final two points to take the set 26-24 and move to a 2-0 advantage.

William Jewell took the final set 25-18 as UIS had only four kills in the final set.

Tiffany Sunderlin led the way with 10 kills on the night and also led the team with 15 digs. Junior Ally Vicsik added three aces and Tiffany Sunderlin led the offense with 16 assists.

ROCKHURST 3, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 0
Coming off a five-set loss to McKendree, #25 Rockhurst and UIS both came into the match with something to prove. The Hawks ended up taking the match in straight sets --- 25-15, 25-17, 25-12.

The Prairie Stars managed just 23 kills on the night across of 23 errors while the Hawks tallied 37 kills and just 11 errors.

Hasler and Ashley Beaton each had six kills to lead the way for UIS while Alli Splitt tallied four blocks in the match.

COMING UP NEXT
Illinois Springfield will continue a four game road swing, traveling to Bellarmine and Southern Indiana this weekend. UIS went a combined 3-1 against these teams last year, falling to Southern Indiana in their first match-up before beating them in five-sets on the final weekend.
