BOLIVAR, MO --- The Prairie Stars (5-3) ended the Southwest Baptist Invitational with two wins, sweeping both Oklahoma Panhandle State and Union University. Illinois Springfield won both matches 3-0, ending the tournament with a 3-1 record, and improved to 5-3 on the season.
GAME ONE: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 3, OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE 0
In a dominating victory, UIS started out hitting .407 in the opening set, recording 13 kills against just two errors. UIS won the first set 25-14 before closing out the victory with a 25-20 and 25-21 second and third set.
UIS attacked at a .317 clip for the match, accumulating 13, 15, and 16 kills in the three sets, respectively. Both
Tiffany Sunderlin and
Alyssa Hasler had 12 kills while
Ashley Beaton and
Alli Splitt had seven a piece.
Lexi Hall led the way with 19 assists while
Kayla Katarzynski had a team-high 14 digs.
GAME TWO: ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 3, UNION 0
In the final match of the tournament, UIS again got out to a great start, winning the first stet 25-12 behind 12 kills and just three errors. The Prairie Stars won the second and third sets by a score of 25-21, winning the final three matches of the tournament and winning nine straight sets.
In this match, UIS had nine different players record a kill, while Splitt led the way with nine.
Tiffany Wentworth had a team-high 14 kills while Hall added 13.
Courtney Schutt had 13 digs while Katarzynski tallied 15 and Sunderlin 11.
UIS improved to 5-3 after the tournament and will begin conference play on Friday against Truman State in a 7 pm match. They will then take on Quincy on Saturday at 3 pm.
