SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Sam Clarke beat the sixth ranked player in the region as the Prairie Stars fell to #39 Lewis in their second to last GLVC match of the regular season. UIS fell to Saint Joseph's 5-4 before suffering another tough 6-3 defeat to the perennial powerhouse Flyers.
SAINT JOSEPH'S 5, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 4
Cole Buehnerkemper and
Sam Clarke picked up third straight doubles win against Saint Joseph's, winning 8-5 to help UIS avoid a doubles sweep.
Santiago Pedraza and
Christian Timm fell 8-3 while
Grant Fitzsimmons and
Ajay Bandreddy suffered a tough 8-6 loss in the final match.
Buehnerkemper was upended in the #1 spot 7-6, 7-5 while Clarke picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win to even up singles play. Pedraza took home a three set victory after dropping the opening set 6-1 and responded with a 6-3, 6-0 final two frames.
Fitzsimmons also picked up a win in the final pairing.
LEWIS 6, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 3
The Prairie Stars fell behind 2-1 after doubles play as Fitzsimmons and Pedraza took away a victory in the third pairing with an 8-3 win. Buehnerkemper and Clarke fell to the #14 pairing of Srdanovic and Braschinski 8-3.
Clarke notched the biggest win of the weekend, scoring a three set win over the sixth ranked player in the region. Clarke won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 0-6. Clarke responded with a 6-2 win to close out the match.
Bandreddy notched the other win for UIS with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the sixth spot.
The Prairie Stars will travel to UMSL and Fontbonne on Wednesday for non-conference action before finishing up GLVC play against Bellarmine on Saturday.
