SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Cole Buehnerkemper and
Logan Burgess Hayes defeated the 16
th ranked doubles team in the nation to pick up the biggest win in the Division II era for UIS tennis. The Prairie Stars fell to Washburn 8-1 and dropped to 9-6 on the season in their final match before GLVC play begins.
Buehnerkemper and Burgess Hayes defeated the top doubles team 8-5 as they improve to 3-1 in their last four doubles matches. The duo is now 14-5 on the season in doubles play and 11-3 in dual matches, playing in the top spot.
Sam Clarke and
Santiago Pedraza played a tough match, falling 8-6 in their doubles match. Grand Fitzsimmons and
Ajay Bandreddy fell 8-3 in the final doubles match.
In singles, the Prairie Stars didn't have as much luck, falling in straight sets in all six matches. Buehnerkemper fell 6-4, 6-4 while Burgess Hayes fought in a tough match before falling 6-4, 7-6.
The Prairie Stars fall to 9-6 on the season while Washburn improved to 10-4. UIS begins GLVC play as they travel to Southern Indiana for a match on Saturday beginnings at 2:00 pm.
