LEBANON, IL --- After a quiet first game, the bats came alive in the final game against McKendree, but it wasn't enough as UIS fell 8-0 and 9-6 in a GLVC match-up. The Prairie Stars (10-22, 2-12) were shut-out for the second time in four games before coming back for six runs in the final five innings of play on the day.
GAME 1: MCKENDREE 8, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 0
The Prairie Stars were limited to just two hits in the first game, both coming off the bat of
BriAnna Edgar. It was the juniors third multi-hit game of the season as she occupied the second spot in the order for the opening game of the double header.
Defensively, the Prairie Stars committed four errors, turning into two additional runs for the Bearcats.
Alexandria Smith threw two innings of relief, giving up one unearned run on three hits while striking out three as well.
GAME 2: MCKENDREE 9, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 6
The Bearcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, getting two homeruns in the opening innings to take a commanding lead. However, in game two, the UIS bat's came alive as
Trisha Faulkner connected for her first homerun of the season, putting the Prairie Stars on the board.
Rachel Goff and
Brittany Miller each left the yard in the fourth and fifth, respectively, cutting the Bearcat lead to 7-4. It was Goff's first homerun of the season while Miller tied
Amanda Gosbeth's team best mark of five with her blast.
In the final frame, UIS plated two on a Faulkner double, scoring
Alexa Brown and
Madi Torry. It was Faulkner's sixth extra base hit of the season, putting her fifth on the team in that category. The Prairie Stars had the tying run at the plate in
Ashli King and Goff, but a strikeout and foul out ended the game and pushed the Prairie Stars record to 10-22.
UIS will look to snap a ten-game slide as they return home for 14 straight games starting with Lewis and Wisconsin – Parkside on Saturday and Sunday.
