Prairie Stars Swept by Southern Indiana to Begin Road Swing

EVANSVILLE, IN --- The Prairie Stars opened their six-game road trip with two tough losses at Southern Indiana, falling 13-4 and 8-3. Ashli King had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-7 with a double, homerun, one run, and four runs batted in. UIS falls to 10-18, 2-8 on the season and has dropped their last eight GLVC contests.

GAME ONE: SOUTHERN INDIANA 13, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 4
The day opened up with Madi Torry drawing a walk and stealing second before being driven in by King on a double to left center. Torry worked a six pitch walk before King blasted the first pitch she saw into the gap, giving UIS the early lead.
Southern Indiana combatted with three runs in the bottom half of the first, collecting consecutive two-out RBI singles. The Eagles scored again in the second on an error, making the score 4-1.

UIS came right back though, as Brittany Miller was hit by a pitch with one out to start a rally in the third. King notched her second and third RBI's of the game as she took a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for her fourth homerun of the season. Not to be outdone, Amanda Gosbeth followed King with her fourth homerun of the season, connecting for back-to-back homeruns to tie the score at four.

After UIS tied the game, it was all Southern Indiana, as they scored eight runs in the next half inning to take a commanding lead. The Eagles scored eight runs on seven hits and capitalized on two UIS errors in the inning.

UIS tallied six hits in the game --- three for extra bases --- and had just the one walk. Jaycee Craver (7-8) threw four innings, surrendering 13 runs (8 earned) on 13 hits.

GAME TWO: SOUTHERN INDIANA 8, ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 3
Much like the first game, the Prairie Stars fell behind early but fought back in the middle innings. After surrendering three runs in the second inning, UIS came back with a two run third inning, to push the score to 3-2.

After a leadoff single from Jordyn Larsen, Haley Inman reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second --- her 16th steal of the season. Torry drew her second walk of the game to put runners on first and second for King, who then singled in Inman for her fourth RBI of the day. On the play, Torry came around to score on an error on the third baseman, making the score 3-2.

In the next half inning though, Southern Indiana plated three runs to push the score to 6-2 and then scored twice more in the sixth to end their scoring. In the fifth, Gosbeth singled and stole second before coming in to score on a single from Molly Manietta.

King, Gosbeth, and Larsen each had two hits in the second game while King and Manietta picked up the two RBI's. Alexandria Smith threw 2.2 innings before Rachel Goff threw the final 3.1.

After winning their first two conference games, UIS has dropped their last eight. UIS will look to reverse that trend on Saturday as they take on Bellarmine.
