ROMEOVILLE, IL --- The Prairie Stars took an early lead off a goal from
Jack Coombes but couldn't hold on as two second half goals from Lewis pushed the game in their favor for a final score of 2-1. The Prairie Stars (4-6, 4-4) took a lead in the 21
st minute but goals in the 68
th and 80
th minute from the Flyers turned out to be the difference maker.
Coombes netted his fourth goal of the season on a header, which was assisted by
Mario Falsone off a set piece from the corner. Coombes goal ties him with teammate Zach Allevi atop the list of goal scorers for UIS this season.
The two teams battled a very offensively heavy game as UIS put 17 shots up to Lewis' 19. However, UIS had nine on goal while Lewis put just five.
Tommy Geile had three saves in the first half but was unable to stop either shot in the second 45 minutes, as the second goal came via a penalty kick, which turned out to be the game-winner.
There were seven yellow cards issued in the match, six of which were delivered in the second half and three within the final ten minutes.
Naba Alzhyri put four shots up including two on target while
Ricardo Estrada and Coombes each fired two shots.
The two losses this weekend put UIS in a percentage tie with Indianapolis and Quincy in sixth place in the GLVC.
The Prairie Stars will come back home, where they are 3-1 on the season, to face Drury and Missouri S&T on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
