Prairie Stars Rally to Eighth Place Finish at Fox Fun

ST. LOUIS, MO --- The Prairie Stars sat in 18th place in the 25 team Midwest Regional after the first round, but rallied and shaved 15 strokes off their first round score to finish in eighth place. Illinois Springfield totaled a score of 315 on the first day before carding a 299 on day two --- one of just three teams to break 300.

UIS was led by Erik Thulien, who fired consecutive rounds in the 70's, carding a 77-72—149 for a T-8 finish. This is Thulien's sixth top-ten finish in his UIS career and first since the 2016 GLVC Championship. Talon Supak opened the tournament with an 82 before shaving ten strokes off his first round score with an even-par 72 in the final round. Supak finished the tournament T-37.

Four of the five UIS competitors were within five strokes of one another as Louis Bagur finished two strokes behind Supak with a 77-79—156. The freshman is coming off a second place finish at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invitational. Trevor Flota and Cole Kempinski finished T-71 and T-73, respectively as Flota went 82-76—158 and Kempinski followed with a 79-80—159.

Of the 25 team field, there were 12-teams from the GLVC competing of which UIS finished fourth. The Prairie Stars were just two strokes behind Bellarmine (7th) and three strokes back of Maryville (6th).

Ferris State won the tournament with a total score of 577, going one-over par as a team for the tournament. Missouri - St. Louis came in second at four-over par after shooting the tournament best overall score of 285 in the opening round.

UIS will complete its fall schedule with the UIS Island Getaway in Puerto Rico on October 24-25.
