ROCHESTER, IL - The University of Illinois Springfield shut out Illinois Wesleyan, 9-0, in its first dual match of the season at Rochester High School on Wednesday afternoon.
In doubles action,
Sam Clarke and
Santiago Pedraza picked up the first victory with an 8-2 win in the No. 2 position. No. 1 partners
Cole Buehnerkemper and
Logan Burgess Hayes followed suit with a 9-7 win. The Titans lacked a full roster so the Prairie Stars picked up the third point by default.
Heading into singles play, Clarke shut out Calen Crim in the No. 3 position to clinch the victory. The No. 6 spot won by default so UIS closed down the match with wins in the other positions.
Buehnerkemper was forced into a three-set victory, but came out on the right side of it with a 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) win in the No. 1 spot. Burgess Hayes picked up a 6-2, 6-2, win in No. 2 singles, while
Grant Fitzsimmons moved into the No. 4 position for a 6-2, 6-0 win. Freshman
Christian Timm also won, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 position to secure the shut out.
