MACOMB, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team saw some strong performances from its freshmen as it wrapped up day one of the Art Peterson Invitational at Western Illinois.
In his first collegiate match,
Sam Clarke defeated Lewis' Andre Norasith, 6-4, 6-3 in the third flight of singles play. Despite dropping his first match in three sets, freshman
Christian Timm rebounded with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Western's Jacob Sanders.
Another freshman,
Logan Burgess Hayes, paired up with veteran
Cole Buehnerkemper to shut out a pair from Quincy in Doubles Flight One.
Returning sophomore
Grant Fitzsimmons dropped Kevin Day from Roosevelt College in straight sets before picking up his second victory of the day to move to the semifinals in Flight Five.
The invitational continues tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
