Prairie Star's Rally Falls Short in Overtime

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Prairie Stars erased a two-goal deficit in the second half but surrendered the game-winning goal in overtime as the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team fell to Southern Indiana, 3-2, in overtime Friday evening at Kiwanis Stadium.

  • Southern Indiana collected an early goal when Ryley Hancock touched it past Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.) in the third minute
  • The visitors doubled their advantage in the 35th minute despite being outshot by the Prairie Stars in the half, 6-4
  • UIS got a goal back when junior Nikki Auble (Plainfield, Ill.) laced a free kick into the top corner in the 59th minute, her second goal of the season.
  • The Prairie Stars outshot USI 9-4 in the second period and eventually found the equalizer when senior Eileen Kenny (Tinsley Park, Ill.) found Karisa Rogers' head just outside the six-yard box. Rogers nodded it home for her first career goal.
  • In the extra period, the Screaming Eagles got an early cross and tucked it home for the game-winner in the 93rd minute
