KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team ended its season on a high note with a 7-2 victory at Truman State on Wednesday afternoon.
The Prairie Stars finish the year with a 11-13 mark - their best record since joining the Division II ranks.
In doubles action, Illinois Springfield took points in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Hayden Esker and
Cole Buehnerkemper grabbed an 8-6 victory, while
Gerard Carpinell and
Santiago Pedraza won 8-4.
In singles play, Buehnerkemper and Esker won at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Buehnerkemper won 6-4, 6-3, while Esker closed out his collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-1 win. The No. 5 and No. 6 spots were also clinched in two sets, while Pedraza won his No. 4 singles match 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
UIS is losing just one player to graduation, while head coach
Tom Rees looks to bolster his roster with additions during the signing period.
