CHATHAM, Ill. - Freshman Grant Fitzsimmons secured a 5-4 victory for the University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at Glenwood High School.

Quincy walked away with a 2-1 lead after doubles competition as Fitzsimmons and Pradeep Ravisankar grabbed the 8-2 victory in the No. 3 spot for UIS.

UIS then tied it up with a win from Ravisankar in No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. The Hawks regained the lead with a 6-0, 6-2 victory from Ethan Arns in the No. 3 spot and then a win in the No. 1 position.

Junior Santiago Pedraza closed the gap, winning the No. 4 match with a 6-3, 6-1 score. The Prairie Stars tied it up after Cole Buehnerkemper won in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. It came down Fitzsimmons in the six spot and he clinched the win, 6-1, 6-4 to move UIS to 9-13 on the year.

The Prairie Stars close out their season with a pair of matches this week. Illinois College comes to Springfield on Tuesday before UIS travels to Truman on Wednesday.
