SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 24 Indianapolis before rebounding with an 8-1 win against Kaskaskia on Saturday at Washington Park.
Against the second match of the day, UIS swept through doubles play with
Hayden Esker and
Cole Buehnerkemper dropping just one set to win 8-1 in the No. 1 position.
In singles play,
Gerard Carpinell shut out his opponent in the No. 2 spot. Both
Santiago Pedraza and
Pradeep Ravisankar only dropped two sets, giving them each 6-1, 6-1 victories in the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively.
Pedraza and Carpinell paired up in doubles play to secure an 8-5 win in the No. 2 position. Aksell Dogan and
Billy Shinn also fought to a victory with a 9-8 (5) win at No. 3 doubles.
Against UIndy, Buehnerkemper and Esker almost took a point in the No. 1 doubles spot, but could not get the tiebreaker as they fell 9-8 (2).
The Prairie Stars are now 7-9 on the season and 0-2 in GLVC action.
Illinois Springfield now readies for Millikin on Thursday, April 2 at Washington Park beginning at noon.
