SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team is wrapping up spring break with a strong performance against Lewis & Clark Community College with a 9-0 victory on a cold Friday afternoon.
Senior
Hayden Esker and sophomore
Cole Buehnerkemper kicked off the victories with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles spot. Freshmen
Grant Fitzsimmons and Aksell Dogan only gave up one set for the 8-1 win in the No. 3 position.
Santiago Pedraza and
Gerard Carpinell helped seal the sweep with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, Buehnerkemper did not waste much time allowing just one set to go to Lewis & Clark CC. He won, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Both Carpinell and Esker followed suit with the same scores in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
Pedraza picked up a 6-3, 6-1, win, while
Pradeep Ravisankar secured a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Sophomore
Billy Shinn closed out the shut out with a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
The Prairie Stars are back in action against Prairie State and Calumet College beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
