SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's tennis team shut out Illinois Valley, 9-0, on Friday afternoon at the Springfield Racquet and Fitness Club.
Freshman
Gerard Carpinell and Santiago Predraza paired up for an 8-0 victory in the No. 2 doubles spot, while
Cole Buehnerkemper and
Hayden Esker grabbed an 8-3 win.
In singles, Carpinell defeated Gustavo Lorado, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 1 position, while Predraza did not drop a set against Broc Dodge at No. 4. Buehnerkemper and Esker both shut out their opponents in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots, respectively.
Sophomore
Billy Shinn closed out the singles victories with another shutout against Stephan Horcar in No. 5.
Illinois Valley played shorthanded so the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles were won by default.
The Prairie Stars are back in action on Friday, March 20 against Lewis & Clark Community College.
