Prairie Stars' Season Ends in 4-2 Loss to McKendree

LEBANON, IL - Goals by senior Eileen Kenny (Tinley Park, Ill.) and sophomore Emily Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) were not enough for the Prairie Stars as McKendree defeated the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team Wednesday evening at Leemon Field.

How It Happened
  • The Bearcats wasted no time in this one, taking the ball down the field after the opening whistle and scoring the game's first goal in just 20 seconds.
  • Neither team put another shot on goal in the next 36 minutes until Eileen Kenny found the back of the net in the 37th minute to tie the game. It was her second goal of the season.
  • The action was just getting started in the first half. McKendree scored the go-ahead goal in the 42nd minute on a header by Sydnee Carroll.
  • Just moments later, junior Sam Boettjer (Spring Grove, Ill.) nearly equalized but her header was denied by McKendree's keeper.
  • Another minute later (43'), McKendree doubled its advantage with a Danielle Hareb to make the score 3-1 heading into halftime.
  • The second period was very even with both teams taking six shots. The Bearcats almost scored again just minutes into the period but Alyssa Patterson's shot deflected off the post.
  • The hosts hit the post again in the 68th minute. This time the Bearcats collected the rebound and scored for the fourth time of the game.
  • Emily Matsen got the comeback started for UIS in the 79th minute with her first goal of the seasona and second of her career. Freshman Jasmin Lisowski (Schaumburg, Ill.) picked up her first assist of the year.
  • McKendree held on for a 4-2 win.

Stats of the Game
  • Senior Eileen Kenny scored in her final game as a Prairie Star. She finished the season with two goals including a game-winner against William Jewell.
  • The Prairie Stars' 2015 campaign was their best season in program history. The team set a program record with five wins and four Great Lakes Valley Conference wins.
