SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - While men's and women's soccer along with volleyball hit the road for majority of the week, there are several home events for fans to enjoy. Catch Volleyball on Tuesday in TRAC as UIS aims to Blue Out the Bearcats!

Both tennis teams competed in their first dual matches of the season last week. The men's team came close to beating a strong Illinois Wesleyan team on Tuesday, but couldn't close out the match. UIS then hosted its first fall opponent on Saturday. MIAA foe Lindenwood swept the women and on the men's side, Hayden Esker and Cole Buehnerkemper put UIS on the board in the 8-1 loss.

Women's Soccer

Last Week - Sept. 26 vs. Lewis - T, 2-2 (2OT).; Sept. 28 vs. UW-Parkside - 12 p.m.


The UIS women's soccer team travels for its next two contests. The Prairie Stars take on Indianapolis on Friday at 4 p.m. CDT and Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Illinois Springfield scored its first two goals in GLVC play in a 2-2 draw against Lewis last week. Senior Kim Tokarski (Hobart, Ind.) notched her third goal of the season and freshman Regina Bolin (Kansas City, Mo.) netted her first career goal in the Prairei Stars' uniform. On Sunday against No. 14 Wisconsin-Parkside, UIS gave up an early goal, but that was it as the defense held the Rangers for 89 minutes. The Prairie Stars put two shots on frame but couldn't find the equalizer. 

Men's Soccer

The UIS men's soccer team hits the road next weekend for games against Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's. Game times are set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. CDT and Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Prairie Stars dropped both of their games last weekend, falling to Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside by the same score, 2-0. On Sunday the Springfield squad outshot the Rangers, 14-10, including seven shots on goal, but couldn't find the scoring touch.

Volleyball

UIS had a tough weekend against two good opponents from the GLVC in UW-Parkside and Lewis on Friday and Saturday, respectively. On Friday, junior Nikki Madoch was lights-out with 10 kills and hit .429. Against Lewis, the Prairie Stars could not find their rhythm as they went on to drop a 3-0 match. Lewis out hit UIS, .306 to .096.

On the season, sophomore Ashley Beaton leads the team with 88 total kills and senior setter JoAnna Hoffman tops UIS with a .278 attack percentage. On the defensive side, sophomore Kayla Katarzynski owns 178 digs (5.09/set) and Madoch has sent back 30 total blocks including two solos.

Last Week - September 27 & 28 - NCAA Division II National Preview at Grand Valley


UIS hosts the Dan Salisbury Memorial on Saturday and Sunday at Piper Glen Golf Course.

The Prairie Stars enter the week after a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II National Preview in Allendale, Mich. Sophomore Jocelyn Matsen (Springfield, Ill.) led the team with a two-day score of 163 and posted the team's only sub-80 round of the tournament.

The UIS men's team travels to Chicago, Ill. for the NCAA Region #1 at the Harborside International Golf Course. The team has not played competitively since the Arch Cup match play even at the beginning of September.
