SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -Â Sophomore
Dylan Stockman (Peoria, Ill.) scored his fourth goal of the season Wednesday night, this one in overtime as the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer defeated the McKendree Bearcats, 1-0, in the regular season finale at Kiwanis Stadium.
The Prairie Stars finish the season with a 6-12 record including a 4-11 mark in the GLVC.
In the extra period, Stockman received the ball, dribbled past a pair of defenders and sent the ball into the left side of the net to end the game. It was his second game-winning goal this season and he finishes as the team's leading scorer with four goals and eight points.
UIS jumped out to a fast start, testing the McKendree keeper early with shots in the fourth and 11th minutes. The Springfield squad outshot the visiting Bearcats five to two in the first half and 12 to eight in the game.
Freshman
Kyle Hamilton (Bethalto, Ill.) was perfect in his 14th start of the season, stopping all six shots that came his way for his second shutout of the year.
After a scoreless first period, Both teams continued to put shots on target, forcing both keepers to make four saves. With just minutes left in regulation, Hamilton stopped a shot from McKendree's Kavel Smith to force overtime.
