Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three Players Score in UIS Victory

HANNIBAL, Mo. -  Three different players scored for the Prairie Stars as the University of Illinois Springfield women's soccer team shut out Hannibal-LaGrange, 3-0, Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Emily Matsen (Rochester, Ill.), senior Ashley Surface (Alto Loma, Calif.) and junior Eileen Kenny (Tinley Park, Ill.) tallied their first goals of the season against the Trojans while junior goalkeeper Paige Polonus (Plainfield, Ill.) recorded her second shutout of the year.

The Prairie Stars opened the scoring in the first ten minutes. Matsen netted her first-career goal as a Prairie Stars in the ninth minute, converting her third shot after her first two were denied by the Trojans' keeper.

UIS nearly doubled its advantage at the end of the half, after being awarded a penalty kick, but senior Kim Tokarski's (Hobart, Ind.) shot deflected off of the post. She tied with Matsen for a game-high three shots.

In the second half, the Prairie Stars outshot LeGrange six to two as they looked to extend their lead. The visitors extended the lead in the 57th minute after a flurry of chances, Surface finished her first goal of the season to make the score 2-0. Eileen Kenny's goal in the 77th minute sealed the victory for UIS, their third of the year.

The Prairie Stars play their final road game of the season on Friday at Bellarmine. Game time is set for 2:55 p.m. CDT.
