Stockman Brace Lifts Prairie Stars to Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Sophomore Dylan Stockman (Peoria, Ill.) scored just two minutes into the game, and then again in the 37th minute as the University of Illinois Springfield men's soccer team defeated the Rockhurst Hawks, 2-1, Friday night at Kiwanis Stadium.

The Prairie Stars are on a two-game winning streak and are now 4-7 overall (2-7 GLVC).

Stockman put the the hosts ahead in the second minute of play after heading a pass from redshirt-junior Tyler Stenzel (Gurnee, Ill.) past the keeper to make the score 1-0. He netted his third goal of the season in the 37th minute when a long throw-in was kicked around in the box before the Peoria native's shot deflected off the keeper and into the net.

Stenzel assisted on both goals while fellow-captain Addison Ferry's (Millstadt, Ill.) long throw-in set up the second tally.

The Hawks got a goal back right before halftime. Rockhurst's Claudio Romano received the ball in the box, turned and scored to make the score 2-1 into the break. The visitors finished the period with nine shots to the Prairie Stars' seven.

Rockhurst went on the attack in the second stanza, outshooting UIS, 12-2, but only three of the team's shots were on-target.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Hamilton (Bethalto, Ill.) was brilliant in the net, stopping seven shots in the game. He denied the Hawks three times in the second half to preserve the victory.

The Prairie Stars are back in action on Sunday against William Jewell. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
