Sophomore first baseman Molly Manietta earned the female Star of the Month after batting .407 for the month.
Manietta leads the team in hitting (.407), hits (11), walks (6) and is second with six RBI. She is the lone player on the team who has hit for the cycle which includes two doubles. Manietta owns a .667 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage. The sophomore also has a perfect fielding percentage with a team-high 64 putouts.
Manietta also was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. She becomes the first-ever UIS softball player to garner the weekly honor. Last week, Manietta topped the team in batting with a .545 average (6-for-11) with a .727 slugging percentage last week as UIS went 2-2 on Friday. She helped UIS defeat No. 15 Fort Hays State, 1-0 and Washburn, 6-5 in the four games played on Friday. The Coal City, Ill., native had two doubles and an RBI, while scoring a run and earning two walks. She recorded 26 put outs at first base.
