Sophomore distance runner Chris Cherry ran the No. 9 10,000m time in the NCAA Division II so far this spring at the Raleigh Relays last week. His feat earned him GLVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors. Cherry's time of 29 minutes and 43 seconds was the fifth-best time by a Division II runner in a field of over 100 athletes from all NCAA divisions.

Cherry ran a 17-second personal best to land second on the UIS men's outdoor track and field all-time list. His previous best time was run at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California in April 2022.

The sophomore recently won two individual events and was a part of a winning relay team at the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships last month before being named the GLVC Men's Track Athlete of the Year. Cherry also earned Track athlete of the week honors once during indoor track season.

UIS track and field will appear at two meets this coming weekend, including the WashU Distance Carnival and Millikin's Alumni Invitational.
