SPRINGFIELD, IL --- Steffen Heckele has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Heckele helped UIS to a fourth place finish at the 13-team Motor City Invite last week, shooting a 78-67—145 (+1). Heckele tied for first in the 75-player field, earning his first career victory for UIS.
His 67 (-5) was the best round among all players in the two-round tournament and is the second-lowest score in UIS history. He led the field in both par-four scoring (+2) and total birdies (10).
Heckele's 67 also set the TPC Michigan Course Record for that specific tournament.
This is Heckeles first career Player of the Week honor and the first Prairie Stars to garner the honor since
Nathan Goecks on October 27, 2016.
