CARMEL, Ind. - Sophomore
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) finished second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship on Monday to help the University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team finish fourth after 54 holes at the Prairie View Golf Club.
The Prairie Stars advance to the semifinals along with Lewis, Indianapolis and Missouri-St. Louis. The match play rounds are set to be played on Tuesday with the Prairie Stars taking on Lewis.
Supak earned All-GLVC honors for his performance with a 54-hole score of 223, nine strokes back of medalist-winner Alex Thode. Supak led the field after 18 holes with a four-under par 68, his second round of 68 this spring. The Prairie Stars shot a 293 in the first round, good for second place.
UIS struggled in the second round of play, carding a team score of 322. Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) led the team in round two with a score of 77. The Prairie Stars dropped to fourth place in the field of 14 teams.
The Prairie Stars bounced back in the final 18 holes to shoot a 308, led by Supak and senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) with identical scores of 76. Wherley finished in a tie for 27th with a final score of 235.
UIS maintained its hold on fourth place with a final score of 923, holding off the likes of McKendree (928) and Wisconsin-Parkside (931) to advance to the semifinals.
