PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - Sophomore
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) fired a three-over par 75 to lead the University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Frito Lay/All State Intercollegiate at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Course on Tuesday.
The second round of the tourney was canceled due to severe winter weather. Round one was completed Tuesday morning after play was suspended on Monday.
Goecks tied for fourth place with his score of 75, just four strokes back of medalist Brendon Caballero. He and fellow-sophomore
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) both finished in the top ten. Supak carded a four-over par 76 to tie for sixth place.
UIS finished fifth at the tournament with a score of 315. University of Tennessee-Martin claimed the tournament title with a team-score of 297. GLVC-opponent McKendree came in sixth place with a score of 322.
Senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) tied for 26th place with a score of 81. Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) and sophomore
Trevor Flota (Mount Vernon, Ill.) posted scores of 83 and 85, respectively.
Two Prairie Stars competed as individuals at the tournament. Junior
Nick Tannahill (Woodlawn, Ill.) carded an 80 while freshman
Erik Thulien (Appleton, Wis.) scored an 86.
UIS travels to Las Vegas next weekend for the UMSL Triton Invitational.
