CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team fired a 313 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 14th place at the NCAA Division II Midwest Region at the Harborside International Golf Course.
The Prairie Stars' two-day score of 612 tied with McKendree for 14th place out of 34 teams and was two strokes back of GLVC-opponent UMSL. Malone captured the tournament title with a score of 590.
Sophomore
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) and junior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) just missed the top 20 (T-22) with identical scores of 150 (73-77). Medalist Tyler Maranville of Tiffin finished with a two-day score of 142.
Sophomores
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) and
Marc Cox (McLeansboro, Ill.) carded second-round scores of 81 and 78, respectively. Cox was the only Prairie Star to improve on his first round score.
Sophomore
Trevor Flota (Mount Vernon, Ill.) rounded out the UIS efforts with a two-day score of 172 (80-92).
The Prairie Stars are back in action this weekend to host the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invite at the Piper Glen Golf Course in Springfield. Tee time is set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
