SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -Â Sophomore
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) earned All-Tournament team honors after carding a two-over par 74 on Sunday to help the University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team finish second at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Invitational at the Piper Glen Golf Course.
The top five players were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Prairie Stars entered the final round of the Salisbury Invite tied for first place with Maryville and Spalding after shooting a 309 on Saturday. The team picked up seven strokes on Sunday on its way to a 302 but Bellarmine had the final say, carding a 292 to capture the team title. Bellarmine's DJ Vogt earned medalist honors for his three-under par 141.
All five UIS players posted sub-80 rounds in the tournament. Sophomores
Marc Cox (McLeansboro, Ill.) and
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) both fired a three-over par 75 on Sunday as Cox (77-75-152) finished seventh and Supak (78-75-153) tied for eighth.
Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) and senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) finished with identical final scores of 156.
The Prairie Stars are back in action at the NCAA Fall Region at Fox Run next weekend in St. Louis, Mo.
