SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -Â Three players on the University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team fired round one scores of 77 to help the Prairie Stars grab a share of the lead at the Dan Salisbury Memorial Collegiate Invite on Saturday at the Piper Glen Golf Course.
Senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) and sophomores
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) and
Marc Cox (McLeansboro, Ill.) each carded a 77 on Saturday to lead the team and tie for sixth place individually. Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) and sophomore
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) shot identical rounds of 78 to wrap up the team efforts.
The Prairie Stars are tied for first place with Spalding and Maryville with a score of 309. Maryville's Jack McKinney and Bellarmine's DJ Vogt fired the best rounds of the day with a two-under par 70.
Play at the Dan Salisbury Invite wraps up tomorrow. The second round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
