RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team is in fourth place after shooting a 310 (+22) on the River Course on the opening round off the UIS Island Getaway on Monday.
No. 13 North Alabama currently leads the field with a 289 (+1) after two players fired a one-under and even par scores. Central Missouri, who is just outside the top 25 in Division II, is in second with a nine-over 297.
Sophomore
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) paced the Prairie Stars with a 76 (+4) as he recorded 12 par scores. Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) sits in second on the team with five-over 77 to rank 13th in the field of 48. Just behind Gregory, sophomore
Marc Cox (McLeansboro, Ill.) shot a 78, while classmate
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.) recorded a 79. Senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) rounds out the team performers with an 82.
Competing as individuals, sophomore
Trevor Flota (Mt. Vernon, Ill.) tied with Gregory with a 77 and freshman Eric Thulien (Appleton, Wis.) tallied a 79, his best collegiate round of the season. Junior
Nick Tannahill (Woodlawn, Ill.) carded an 84, while sophomore
Cameron Scheller (Evansville, Ind.) rounded out the field with an 92.
The Prairie Stars look to gain some ground when they return to the course for round two at 7:30 a.m. EST.
