ST. LOUIS, Mo. -Â Senior
Jacob Wherley (Ozark, Mo.) carded a one-over par 72 in the final round of the Midwest Region #2 to help the University of Illinois Springfield men's golf team tie for fifth place out of 18 teams on Tuesday at the Glen Echo Country.
The first round of the tournament was completed early Tuesday morning. The players teed off at 9:30 a.m. for the final round of action.
UIS tied with Bellarmine for fifth place with a score of 606. The Prairie Stars shot a 298 in the second round, picking up two places from their first round score.
Wherley finished the tournament with a score of 146, just four strokes behind medalist winner Robert Dofflemyer of Lewis. The Ozark native placed eighth to lead the Prairie Stars. Junior
Kent Gregory (McLeansboro, Ill.) improved on his first round score by six strokes with a two-over par 73 to finish with a 152. He tied for 26th place.
Sophomores
Nathan Goecks (Lannon, Wis.),
Talon Supak (Washington, Ill.) and
Marc Cox (McLeansboro, Ill.) wrapped up the UIS efforts with scores of 155, 156 and 156, respectively. Four of the five Prairie Stars improved on their round one scores by at least two strokes.
UIS travels to the UIS Island Getaway in Puerto Rico on October 27.
