Tell us about your background and how you ended up coaching at UIS:
I attended Lincoln Land Community College and played baseball, and then continued my baseball and educational career at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated there with a math-computer degree. Upon graduation my wife and I decided to return to Central Illinois. She became a teacher and I am a computer programmer. I continued building on my computer background and teach in the computer fields today.
I still wanted to be involved in sports and over the next 20 years coached baseball, golf, basketball, and volleyball in high school. When my kids graduated from high school I looked for other opportunities and UIS was just starting a golf program. They couldn’t find anyone else for the job so I was their only choice at the time. Now 12 years later they probably wish someone else applied (haha).
What do you like best about the sport you coach:
The coaches in the league are great and you get to see some very nice courses and the country.
What has been the top moment/game of your coaching career:
The two times, once for the women and once for the men, when we had someone qualify for the NCAA National Tournament.
What’s the best thing about coaching at UIS:
I like the school size and the other coaches and staff are a great group of people.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not coaching:
Working on projects that include some physical labor (houses, yard, furniture etc.).
