The University of Illinois Springfield women's golf team finished fifth at the UMSL Spring Invitational after competing in three 18-hole rounds on Sunday and Monday. The field included six GLVC opponents and several East Region opponents.

UIS finished with a score of 937, its best 54-hole score this spring. The Prairie Stars shot 309 and 318 on day one of the event and then shot a 310 to close out the regular season. UIS was one shot back from host school Missouri-St. Louis. The field was tight from second to sixth place, with no changes in the standings upon the finish of the second and third rounds.

Grand Valley State was the team champion after shooting 299, 311, 300 for a total score of 910. GVSU's Olivia Stoll was the individual champion. UIS's Heather McLean finished T4 to make the all-tournament team. McLean totaled 225 for the tournament and became the UIS all-time leader in birdies in a single season when she surpassed Jennifer Queller's 2018-19 record of 48 birdies. Freshman Elaine Grant was seven shots back from McLean (74, 76, 80).

The Prairie Stars also broke the team's single-season birdies record during round two on Sunday when Bobbi Uhl birdied to officially surpass the 2018-19 team's mark of 152. Uhl finished one stroke back from Grant and had one eagle on Sunday. Uhl and Grant each contributed seven birdies to the team's tournament total of 24.

Isabelle Segal and Sara Prieto rounded out the scoring for UIS shooting 249 and 253, respectively.

Next up for UIS is the GLVC Championship at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo. on April 21-23. GLVC teams will first compete in 54 holes of stroke play to determine the individual champion on Friday and Saturday before the top-four teams move on to the semifinal and final rounds of match play to determine the team champion on Sunday, April 23.

UIS finished 12th of 13 at last year's Championship with a final score of 1042 after finishing third as a team in both 2018-19 and 2020-21.

The GLVC Women's Golf Championship will be streamed live for free on the GLVC Sports Network. Stay tuned for a complete schedule.
